Android 2.1 coming to the Motorola Droid on March 18th

As I am sure a lot of Motorola Droid owners are wondering when Android 2.1 will be coming to their handsets, their wait is now over.  According to Android Central’s website Verizon will be sending out the updated over-the-air on March 18th at 12 pm EST.  The software update will include features such as pinch-to-zoom in the browser, Gallery & Google Maps. The News and Weather widget that is found on the Nexus One will be available. Their will be support for voice to-text entry so a user can tap on the microphone icon on the software keyboard and say what they want to send in a text or email. The photo gallery will also have a 3D layout and will also allow you to view photos taken from the phone and from online using Picasa Web albums. The Android 2.1 will also feature live wallpapers allowing the user to interact with the phone’s wallpaper by taping on the background.  Aside from the features there will also be improvements to Google Maps. Also improved pattern-lock functionality this should help with the security issue of the Motorola Droid. The update will also improve handset audio when disconnecting a wired headset. Free Yahoo Mail is now supported in this update by just signing in with your user name and password. Also Email accounts will not have to be re-entered after the system update. So everyone tell me what you think of this system update for the Motorola Droid?

Motorola has released an update in regards to when the Motorola Droid & Cliq are getting Android 2.1. According to the Motorola Support Forums the Motorola Droid should be expecting an over-the –air software upgrade to be sent out soon. And the Motorola Cliq is expected to get Android 2.1 in the second quarter of 2010.

Seems like  the upgrade for the Motorola Cliq shouldn’t be to far off.  But Motorola seems to be vague as to when it comes to the Motorola Droid’s update.
