Thanks to Gizmodo and their tipsters have seemed to found some leaked documents regarding the Nexus One’s pricing. According to the site the Nexus One is going to be sold unsubsidized and Google won’t be selling the phone at a cost to them. To get the phone unsubsidized it will cost you $530 dollars. If you want to get the handset subsidized it will require a 2-year contract and will cost you $180 dollars for the handset. The cell service contract will be though T-Mobile USA and the Nexus One will only use the $39.99 a month Even More plan for text & web it would be $79.99 a month total. For current T-Mobile customers unfortunately won’t be able to keep their current plan if they want a subsidized phone. They will be force to change to the one plan that is offered with the Nexus One. But if you don’t like the plan that is offered with the subsidized phone you can buy the $530 unlocked and according to the article you might save money. Also Family plan, Flex pay, Smart Access and Kid Connect subscribers are going to have to buy the phone unsubsidized. Also you will only be able to buy five phones for each Google account you have. Google will be selling the handset through Google’s own website Google.com/phone. And another thing if you get the phone subsidized and then cancel your plan before 120 days you will have to pay the unsubsidized price of $350. But you also have the option of returning the phone to Google, which according to the article authorizes them to charge the $350 directly to your credit/debit card. Also in the Terms of Sale you have to acknowledge that the manufacture of the phone is HTC and not Google.
Well, theirs the pricing and the information on how it supposed to work. I personally would not spend $530 dollars on a phone but I don’t know if your able to buy the phone unsubsidized and then get one of the Even More Plus plans. If you were able to use the Even More Plus plans you would save more money in the long run. Mainly because you pay less each month for the plans but you have to pay for the full price of the phone or over a monthly payment plan. Although I think it’s odd that you have to acknowledge when you purchase the phone that the manufacture is HTC and not Google. I guess that is to keep Google from undermining the other manufactures that have made Android based handsets. As always I appreciate the feedback and tell me what you think on the pricing of the Nexus One.
