T-Mobile's Frist HSPA+ phone the T-Mobile G2

Those of you that are still holing on to their T-Mobile G1 phones have a new phone to look forward to.

Today, T-Mobile posted a press statement announcing the T-Mobile G2. The T-Mobile G2 will be T-Mobile’s first phone to use their HSPA+ network, which in theory can reach download speeds of up to 21 Mbps and up to 5.7 Mbps upload speeds. T-Mobile has already created a teaser site for the G2, which is live now.

Delivering tight integration with Google services, the G2 will break new ground as the first smartphone specifically designed for the advanced HSPA+ network, which delivers today’s available 4G speeds.

Now there have been a lot of rumors about the G2 technical specifications. According to Androidandme.com the G2 is expected to run stock Android 2.2, so if you’re a fan of the HTC Sense User Interface customizations you won’t see them on this handset.

The G2’s processor could be the Qualcomm MSM7230 chip, which runs at 800Mhz. According to some sources, the leaked prototype is running at 800Mhz and could be running at 1Ghz by the time the handset launches.

The G2 is expected to have a four row QWERTY keyboard and an optical track pad. Below is a picture is of the leaked prototype handset which is believed to be the T-Mobile G2. As more information comes my way I will pass it along to Technorati readers.
