Flash 10.1 could come to Android in 2H 2010

Adobe has showed Flash 10.1 on the Nexus One and the Motorola Droid in their Adobe Developer videos. During an interview with Fox Business, Adobe CEO Shantanu Narayen stated “We have a number of excited partners who are working aggressively with us to bring Flash to their devices, whether they be smartphones as well as handsets, and so companies like Google or RIM or Palm are going to be releasing version of Flash on smartphones and tablets in the second half of the year.”

The only handsets that are able to run Flash 10.1 is the Nexus One & Motorola Droid in the USA. And since Adobe has said that Flash 10.1 will be coming to Android in the 1st quarter & then the 2nd quarter of this year before, I guess we will have to wait and see if Adobe will come through this time.

Adobe Air coming to Android.

Well I do apologize to my readers since I have recently been employed it’s been a little hard to keep up with the announcements during the Mobile World Congress.  Adobe has made an announcement during MWC that they are preparing a mobile version of Adobe Integrated Runtime for both Flash & Web applications outside of the web browser. Adrian Ludwig Adobe’s marketing director for the Flash platform stated, “Our goal is to provide a consistent runtime that spans devices, inclusive of mobile and desktop operating systems. “ For instance someone that uses the Adobe Air application on the desktop should be able to use that application on a mobile device. Below is a demo video to get a better understanding of Adobe Air running on Android.

Flash 10.1 will need enhanced versions of Android to run.

A lot of people including myself are wondering about Adobe Flash on the Android platform. The Engadeget website was able to get in contact with Adobe and inquired about the matter. According to the website Adrian Ludwig the group product manager for Flash stated this:

Adobe, Google, and other members of the Open Screen Project are working together to make ensure the full Web experience can be delivered on largest possible number of devices. Support for full Flash Player 10.1 requires some enhancements to existing versions of Android. These enhancements are expected to be available as an upgrade to existing devices and for new devices starting in Q2 2010.

The statement suggests that the current versions of Google Android will have to be updated in order to support Flash 10.1.  Now Android versions 2.0 & 2.1 have been shown by Adobe’s Developer videos to be able to run Flash 10.1. But as for the older versions of Android 1.5 & 1.6 is still up in their air in regards to Flash support.

Android getting Flash 10.1 in second quarter of 2010

Well during CES Adobe announce that both the Nexus One and the Motorola Droid would get Flash 10.1,which was shown off in videos on both of the devices. But in a recent interview with Engadget Adobe sated that “Support for full Flash Player 10.1 requires some enhancements to existing versions of Android. These enhancements are expected to be available as an upgrade to existing devices and for new devices starting in Q2 2010.”

Now the statement is confusing to me am not sure if the company is talking about when all Android devices get Android 2.1 updates. Or is Adobe just going to make a version that will run on Android 2.1,1.6 & 1.5.  I know it’s a little vague but I will keep the site updated on any further developments. But I want to know which one do you think it is?
