Motorola Backflip now available for AT&T and it's crippled

Well it seems like every cell phone carrier has a Google Android based phone, as AT&T is just now joining the Google Android bandwagon with the Motorola Backflip. But unlike other Google Android phones from Motorola such as the Motorola Cliq the Motorola Backflip is going to be crippled by AT&T.  The Motorola Backflip will not allow customers to install applications from unknown sources out side of the Android Market place. This will protect users from installing harmful programs, but it will also keep users from installing beta apps such as Swype.  By doing this Android Developers will not be able to load and test their apps to the Android Market prior to releasing a full version.  The Motorola Backflip will come with Android version 1.5 with Motoblur. The handset will also have Yahoo search instead of Google’s own search engine. And users will not be able to remove AT&T’s own pre installed applications on the device. With AT&T's own applications on the device this will most likely slow down the handset. During an interview with Engadget this is what Ralph de la Vega CEO of AT&T Mobility had to say about the Google Android platform:

“We like the Android as an operating system on its own, but we want to make sure that we have, and customers have the option, to put applications on that device that are not just Google applications. And we want to give customers the choice of other applications on that device, not just the same Google applications.”

Well I feel sorry for AT&T customers wanting to buy an Android phone, because I would not be happy with this handset if I were to buy it.  So tell me what you think about all of this are you still thinking about buying the Motorola Backflip?

Nexus One could come to Verizon on March 23rd.

Since a CDMA version of the Nexus One has passed the FCC. The guys over at androidcentral.com website has gotten some more information on it. According to a anonymous Google worker that stated:

The Nexus One, originally released on T-Mobile in January, has passed FCC inspection for use on Verizon's CDMA network and according to a Google worker who wishes to remain anonymous it will be made available on March 23.

This could be a believable date since Google is adding Verizon to the Nexus One’s website in the spring. So what do you think are you going to get the Nexus One when it comes to Verizon?

Nexus One Passes the FCC for Verizon & Sprint's Network.

Google announce the Nexus One back in January, a couple of days ago a CDMA version of the Nexus One passed the FCC with frequencies for both Sprints Network & Verizon’s Network.  The CDMA Nexus One will have a 3.7-inch AMOLED touch screen & a 1GHz Snapdragon processor.  Now my best guess would be that it’s coming to Verizon’s Network since Google did mention the company in their plans to have a phone sold through Google’s phone website.

Cricket plans on offering a Google Android Smart phone

Well this is good for the people that use Cricket Wireless, which is a subsidiary of Leap wireless.  The company just announced a joint venture with Texas based Pocket Communications. The cellular service provider is planning on launching a Blackberry device as well as a smart phone running Google Android. Now it didn’t say which Google Android handset they would have. Both Cricket Wireless and Pocket Communications offer unlimited talk for $25 a month and unlimited talk and web from $40-$45 a month. So tell me what do you think of a low cost pre-paid cell service provider offering Google Android handsets?
